Admission requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Music or an equivalent degree awarded by a university in Germany or abroad

Successful completion of an aptitude test

Candidates applying for the aptitude test, who have neither a German general qualification for university entrance nor a degree / graduation in a German speaking course of studies have to prove sufficient knowledge of the German language (comparable with level A1-GERR). This can be proven either through submission of appropriate test certificates or through a conversation with the Board of Examiners during the aptitude test. If necessary, the Board of Examiners advices to take part in study-integrated German classes according to the respective language skills.

The course of studies encompasses the compulsory modules:

Song accompaniment (piano), piano scoring (opera and oratorio), song design / song accompaniment, Italian

Artistic basics I

Score and general bass, internship in song instruction, job shadowing in répétiteur work

Artistic basics II

Internship in song instruction, job shadowing in in répétiteur work, recitative formulation on the harpsichord

Artistic Practice I

Internship as assistant to the program director, participation in an opera project of the School of Music or accompaniment of the voice and instrumental examinations, participation in the public concert evenings given by the School of Music

2. Public examination (accompaniment of an evening of song and arias, 60 minutes)

Requirements for the aptitude test

Examination in the major suject Song accompaniment / Répétiteur work

  • Accompaniment of six songs from the Classical, Romantic, and Modern periods
  • Accompaniment of a freely selected oratorio aria
  • Accompaniment of an opera aria by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carl Maria von Weber, and one aria from an Italian opera of the 19th century
  • Presentation of a classical sonata
  • Recital of two test pieces following a preparation period of 20 minutes
  • Accompaniment of a song from sheet music
