Courses are offered for the following languages: English, French, Italian, Korean, Russian, and Spanish. The courses are each divided into four phases. One phase runs for nine hours per week during semesters, i.e., three courses of three hours per week each that build on one other. Phases I and II are designed to impart general language competency, but are oriented more towards an academic context. In phase III, the focus turns to either a cross-disciplinary, discipline-group, or discipline-specific orientation. The phases are designed to enable participants to obtain a qualification under the pan-university UNICERT® system of language education and certification. Participation is free to members of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
