Competitions

Mainz School of Music offers two different competition to its students: The 'concert exam' competition which (collegiate internally) takes place every other year and the Steinway advancement award which is hosted every year by the Steinway-Haus in Frankfurt.

The competition is targeted exclusively at students of Mainz School of Music. Students of all instruments of the study path 'concert exam' may participate. The prize is awarded by a collegiate internal jury and is partly funded by the School of Music Friends Association. In 2018, there was an additional special prize which was awarded in cooperation with the philharmonic orchestra of Mainz.

The Steinway Competition - Advancement Award for piano students

The Steinway advancement award is awarded every year to talented piano students from the region of the Steinway-Haus in Frankfurt. It aims to perpetually support and promote young and apt talents.

Three Schools of Music are involved in the advancement award: Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK), Mainz School of Music (HfMM) and Würzburg University of Music. Each of the schools sends two candidates who are determinded through a collegiate internal competition. The maximum age for the participants is 27. Both, the competition concerts as well as the prize winner's concert, are public and take place at the Steinway-Haus in Frankfurt. An independent first-rate jury determines the laureates.

The advancement award is awarded in the form of a scholarship in the amount of 1000,- €.
