Gerhard Gnann

Gerhard Gnann was born in 1962. He studied Organ, Harpsichord and Sacred Music in Freiburg, Amsterdam and Basel. His teachers were Ludwig Doerr, Ton Koopman, Edwald Kooiman and Guy Bovet. He won a number of international competitions: Brugge 1988, Swiss Organ Competition 1992, Grand Prix, Speyer Cathedral’ 1993. In 1997 he was appointed professor for artistic organ playing at the Hochschule fuer Musik at Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. Here he functions as director of the Church Music / Organ division. In 2003 he was awarded the Johannes Gutemberg University Prize for excellent achievement in teaching. As artist and educator Gerhard Gnann is nationally and internationally in demand. Moreover, Gnann attracted attention with CD recordings at labels such audite, haenssler Classic, organum and others. The complete recordings of J. S. Bach on Silbermann organs startet by Ewald Kooiman for the label Aeolus is now continued with Gnann and others.

Luca Scandali was born in Ancona (Italy) in 1965.He received a diploma in Organ and Composition for Organ with first-class standings studying under Professor Patrizia Tarducci and a first-class diploma in Harpsichord at the Conservatory “G. Rossini” of Pesaro, where, subsequently, he obtained a diploma in Composition under Professor Mauro Ferrante.He continued his organ studies under Ton Koopman, Andrea Marcon, Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini and Liuwe Tamminga.Furthermore, he devotes his time to research into the problems inherent in the performance practice of Renaissance, Baroque and Romantic music, through the study of treatises and original instruments.He won the first edition of the scholarship “F. Barocci” (Ancona, Italy) for young organists in 1986.In 1992 he won the third prize at the First International Organ Competition “Città di Milano” (Italy), in 1994 he won the fourth prize at the Eleventh International Organ Competition of Brugge (Belgium).In 1998 he won the first prize at the Twelfth International Organ Competition “Paul Hofhaimer” of Innsbruck (Austria), whose jury awarded only four times over its 40-year history.He has been invited to give masterclasses and courses and he has performed in important concert seasons and festivals in Italy and abroad. He holds the teaching posts of Organ and Composition for Organ at the Conservatory “F. Morlacchi” of Perugia.He has recorded for Symphonia, La Bottega Discantica, Tactus, ORF Edition – Alte Musik, Dynamic, Arion – Pierre Verany, Motette, Deutsche Grammophon, CPO, Elegia Records.
